How Much Would You Sell Your Company for If You Were to Sell It Today
Do you want to sell your business?
You have a desired price in mind.
But will a buyer pay this price?
In fact, is there even a buyer?
Businesses should be prepared for sale from the day they are established.
After all, your business is an asset, and it exists to generate cash for you.
Throughout its operations, it generates cash for you (if you implement the right strategies and execute them well).
However, when you no longer want to run this business, you need to make the final move to leave the table with your pockets full, and you need to prepare for that final move.
Selling your business at the price you desire.
Based on 30 years of experience in buying and selling businesses across different regions of the world (including Turkey), we’ve observed that prospective buyers look at the following five key indicators when deciding whether to purchase a company and, if they do, determining the price:
- Does your company have a sustainable sales funnel for at least the next 5 years?
- Do you have scalable products/services?
- Are the assets on the balance sheet mostly financed with equity? Or with liabilities? There’s no golden ratio here, but the more your company relies on equity to finance its assets, the more resilient it is to external shocks, and the more attractive it becomes.
- Are the following four business systems established and functional?
a. Marketing
b. Sales
c. Customer Service
d. Administrative Systems (Finance and Human Resources) - How competent is your company’s C-level leadership team?
The better you perform in these five key indicators, the higher your chances of selling your company at your desired price.
Now, after reading this article, grab a pen and paper and rate your business on these five criteria on a scale of 1 to 5. Celebrate the areas where you score 5 out of 5.
For the areas where you score less than 5, take action immediately!
